OPTIMAL PIPELINE MANAGEMENT

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP)

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) is a specific group of plastics. But what about the different resin compositions? What does it actually mean, FRP, GRP, GRE, GRP and RTRP? Is it harmful when there is a scratch on? And that hairline fracture, is it a problem?

There are a number of non viable assumptions for the use of these types of plastics, sometimes by inadequate realisation (design – delivery – construction), but often also by a lack of knowledge on the different phases of use. Inspection options are not as widespread as we know from the ‘steel world’. It is therefore understandable that this type of pipeline material is not considered as a first choice.

Nevertheless, it is always good to assess several alternatives with a substantiated methodology. Especially when the possibilities, limitations and risks of the application of FRP pipes are always assessed correctly.

Why to choose HDM Pipelines?

We have the theoretical and practical knowledge and experience to support you in terms of FRP pipelines. We understand the considerations that are made in practice to consider composite pipes. Precisely for this reason we offer you independent advice and support.

It would be our pleasure to work out a non-committal proposal for you.

If you want to get acquainted with this type of pipeline, we also offer introductory and training programmes.

In practice

Imagine a leakage occurs in a FRP pipe, which shows a reduced capacity. In that case it might be the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. This then requires a good preparation, from the perspective of the pipeline. By this we mean that in addition to the usual considerations (downtime, focus on quick repair) it can sometimes be quite lucrative to think one or two steps ahead.

In one particular case the solution of the root cause of the leakage was a combination of handling Klic notifications with more awareness and a correct assessment of the consolidation of this type of material.
